Here's two that could be done in our lifetimes but probably won't..... 1) R2 extension to Elkton MD. DelDOT has been wanting this for a while. Under the current AMTRAK rules, both SEPTA and MARC have to qualify to BACON interlocking, which is about a mile into Maryland from Delaware and about 17 miles from DAVIS and Newark (all commuter roads with services terminating on the NEC itself must qualify to the nearest full interlocking - DAVIS is on the eastern side of Newark Station). DelDOT wants to build a major park-and-ride for both Washington/Baltimore and Philadelphia/NYC bound commuters with separate layup facilities for both roads. MARC refuses because it does not benefit their riders enough. 2) Restoration of Parkesburg service. With Chester county blowing up the way it has, SEPTA's decision to cut the service to Downingtown was a VERY bad decision. Now any plans for that must wait until the Rule 562 Project is done. |
