5201 is now in south jersey. The bus is at Washington Twp getting ready for testing on 400/403 lines. The bus will be out in the morning during rush hour and in the afternoon during rush hour. I talk to my supervior about the bus, he tells me we are getting 40 buses and we will be getting them before Newton Ave. I cant wait to get behind the wheel of this bus on the 400. |

...and it is out and about this AM. Saw it at 10th & Market, with passengers, but marked Not in Service. I assume it was making its 'delivery' trip into Center City to deadhead back out. |

My question has no relation to the new 5201, but anyway: When did New Jersey Transit begin to phase their stickshifts out of revenue service(didn't they have a 1977 MCI 8 series cruiser)? I'm thinking that they had a group that survived into the early 1980s for use in North Jersey(the New York bound routes). |

Ah, I was wondering when you were going to find it. Great catch! How did you like it? Do any of you know if it's on any particular run, or are they just throwing it out there randomly during the rush hour period? I hope to ride it soon (you know, before the rest of them come in)...just like I hope to get a picture of the ex WMATA Parktown Flx in its new wrap - it's very evasive! Can we use those pictures for the news page and NJT page of the website? |

I like the ride ofthe bus [it takes the bumps easier than the worn-out Flxs], and the AC was perfect on a very warm day. I think they are assigning to a particular driver on a particular route each day. Chances are that you will see it on either the 400, 403, and 406 lines. I think it rotates on each line. Fianlly, feel free to use the pictures on the website, just make sure I'm properly credited for the picture [photographer: Mark De Loatch]. |

I seem to recall that the last of the stick-shifts in South Jersey started disappearing in the 85-86 time frame, not long after the first Flx Metro transits started arriving. When this happened I remember a number of the '76 Flx's being imported from North Jersey as they were displaced from transit routes there by the Metros. I'll have to check my photos on this. I know the Z500's were around longer than they probably should have once they got AC in the 77-78 time frame. They also received the white/blue stripe paint scheme similar to the Flx's at that time. The first batch of Jersey Cruisers were MC-9's and they arrived around '82 or so. That's when the big group of W-X700 suburbans began to disappear. There were some second-hand MC-8's that NJT bought and a few made it to the Southern Division but most of these ran in North Jersey. |

Saw 5201 again yesterday AM on the same 406 trip as I saw it last week. Is it now working out of Newton Ave, where 406 is based? |

No, 406 is at Washington Township depot and the Nabi 5201 is at the same depot as the 406. |

Some 406 trips run out of Newtown. The first inbound 407 trip to Philadelphia changes to the 4:37 AM 406 trip to New Jersey. There is also a 404 trip that turns into a 406 mid afternoon. However the 406 is mainly based out of Washington Twp. |

As for the New Jesey Transit routes that run to New York, are any of them interlined with another route(especially the 128, for that route runs from 4 different garages, with Howell being one of them)? |

The GM fishies lasted until 1987, when the MC9B's began to show up...before that, I remember seeing P700's around as late as 1986, with some running on the 404...it was the first TNJ route to get a 400-series number, because it ran on the Chestnut Street Transitway WB(it had been formerly the NJT Route D, a subsidized service that had been part of the old Public Service Route 15), running opposite SEPTA's Route D, which would later become the 21 bus. |

So where is 5201 currently at right now and does anyone know where its operating next Saturday? I will be in the Philly area next Saturday. That would be good if 5201 was operating on a route thats going to Philly from Camden so I can ride it back to Philly instead of PATCO. I may consider taking NJT in either direction to Philly from Camden Saturday but Im not too sure.

Forget it. 5201 is back in North Jersey, at the Fairview Garage. |
