This Afternoon I saw an unknown new flyer Westbound on Somerset Street Near Aramingo Ave. Could've been the 54 or maybe the 89 deadheading somewhere

When I used to hang around Frankford, I've been seeing quite a few 89 buses with full size buses during the weekdays. I don't know about now, or on weekends, as the Neos didn't run on weekends at the time...

Well I usually see Eldorados on the 89! I don't think any of this is related to the ongoing swap between Comly and Allegheny though..

So far 5920, 5912, 5479, 5489 has been spotted on the Allegheny's side of the 65.

The 89 was a Neo stronghold from the fall of 1984(with the advent of 1984 Neo BP transits 1301-1325). In 1993, The 89 was extended through North Philadelphia(taking the former 57 routing-Jefferson/Master). The line was split with Frankford. Luzerne used 3000-3116 or 1301-1325 on the 89(The 89 may have used 8624-8670 as well, these were the Germantown buses re assigned to Luzerne, 8601-8623 went to Allegheny).

The Frankford share of the 89 used exclusively 1983 Neo BD transits 8435-8561(the 89 may have used 8773-8779, for these buses were re-assigned from Southern to Frankford).

In 1997, the 89 went all Midvale, using an assortment of Neos assigned to Midvale.

In 2001, Eldroados started to show up on the 89. With the advent of the New Flyers, NABIs started showing up on the 89 & now New Flyers(I suppose it has to do with what's available during "load line."

The 89 is a neighborhood feeder line connnecting Frankford, Junianta, Kensington, Richmond & Fishtown with Aramingo Avenue & the Frankford Elevated.

Just a few minutes ago saw 5910 on 27 (block 5079) southbound at Ridge & Manayunk - first LF I've seen on 27. Interesting that the Broad-Carpenter message is displayed in one pulse, unlike 32 which shows it in two (Broad - and Carpenter).

Right on its heels was 5911 on 65 (block 214 I believe) coming down the Ridge Ave hill just past Pechin St.

Nice to see a non-artic on 27 for the first time in probably 7 years.

Reportedly Comly will not get artics, except for 2 for training, until after the extended EL shutdowns are finished. The plan is to use as many artics as possible on the "non-stop" el shuttle buses and the deadhead time from Allegheny is much less than from Comly. The NFs were sent to Allegheny to help free up more artics for the shuttle bus service. Come the Fall the 65 will still operate out of Allegheny, however most runs are to be NFs with some peak hour runs/splits to be artics due to higher demand. This information from a SEPTA driver who's son attends my school.

5914 on block 5205 this morning and 5481 on block 5203. There was a NF on the 2:24 out of 69th St., but I missed the number. Block 5211 had 7167 this afternoon, which was delayed due to a wheelchair lift sticking.

Makes sense - that and the fact that the artics probably aren't needed on 14 until the fall crowds return. I was surprised that 27 has them now, but with school closed, even the midday runs on the current schedule can often be handled by 40' buses.

Speaking of which, I saw three consecutive runs on 27 this afternoon held down with 5900's. I'm wondering how they're making out on the hills.

27 got the same treatment when the Volvos were here - some runs were designated for artics, others were not. It was rare to see a Volvo out after the PM peak or on weekends.

I spotted 5912, 5915,5918 & 5922 on the 27. All in one day. Today.

As for the Volvos assigned to Allegheny(1984-2000), there was at least one run on the 27 that ended @ 15th & Spruce @ 8:25pm(from Barren Hill) during the week. This particular run had Volvos assigned to it.

Then there were a few afternoon straights on the 48 & 60 that extended into the latter evening hours(lastest being 9:30pm). These sightings were odd during the winter months.

The 9 lost all it's Vovlos by 6:30pm during the week.

Yes, it is interesting to see New Flyers on routes that I knew as 100% artic routes. I certainly did a double take when an unexpected New Flyer appeared at Plymouth Meeting Mall, running on the 27.

Posted Image

I've heard reports today that there were 40fters on both the 48 and the 33 - what's up with that? I also saw 5920 at Somerset Station on Thursday, properly running on the 54.

I'm sure the 5900s are handing the hills a lot better than the artics did. The 27 must be a swifter ride with these New Flyers. Hopefully, this doesn't mean that artics will only run on the 27 during the rush; that would likely greatly lower my chances of riding an artic on this route. Which would be strange.

Oh well, so much for knowing when a 27 is coming just by looking at the type of bus!

As for New Flyers running on the 33 & 48, lets just hope SEPTA doesn't pull a fast one and try to put them on during the morning on evening rush hours during the week.

The artics going over to Comly...are they strictly for the 14, or will they used on other routes? The 20 can benefit from having a few Neo Artics during the AM & PM peak hrs.

BTW, based on the sightings found on the forums (and based on my own sightings), it seems like New Flyers have been found on every Allegheny based route except the 6. This past Saturday I was in the area of 74th & Ogontz Ave and every 6 that went by had an Artic. Even with the New Flyers coming over from Comly, does SEPTA plan on keeping the 6 as an "all artic" route?
