Well If southern gets them, they will be to replace the 5000 series NABIs which were recently tranfered over from Comly and Callowhill.

In my opinion, Frankford & Southern really don't need them.

Frankford needs more buses. When the Arrott Terminal starts with the elevator project, I suspect the 59 and 75 will be bused. The project will be of long duration and the detours would have a lot of trackless EPU running time. It's going to be hard to get in and out of Arrott Terminal, for all routes. Big construction equipment will be in the way.So the smart thing would be to bus the lines.

Of course, this will be entirely up to SEPTA.

I heard they may keep some of the NABI's for this purpose.

Information I received from a very reliable source within bus operations told me that during Arrott Terminal construction all the routes that service that location may be re-routed to serve Frankford Transportation Center keeping the connection with the EL. Apparently wire work along Frankford Ave needs to be done first as well as finding berths for the 89, J, and K.

In my opinion, Frankford & Southern really don't need them.

Midvale needs them the most, & if Midvale gets their batch, they'll be able to phase out more than half of their NABI fleet & I can kiss the 5000s from Callowhill that raidated over to Midvale goodbye.

If Southern gets their group, maybe they can do away with their 5300s.

If Southern & Frankford don't get their batches, Midvale would have 110 & that would completely rid them of NABIs, with 3 spare NF DE 41s & give the maintenance & mechanichal personnel something to look forward to coming to work for daily:

a. a new bus that doesn't need much fixing
b. a new bus with the clean smell without the scratchitti.
My word, that would be awful, wouldn't it!

i think Midvale has quite a few heavy hitter routes that need the larger capacity of the NABIs. I believe that's one of the reasons why the L has been using them almost exclusively during the weekdays.

Actually Midvale will be getting their batch anyday now they haven't arrive just yet and when I was on the R5 on Friday as the train went passed it I seen a few NABI 416s outside of their garage they look like they are ready to be scrapped I'm assuming they will be junked and scrapped when the DE41LFs arrive in the garage.

As for the speed issue, a guy out of Callowhill showed me very old school trick:
Hold the Brake for a second as you accelerate, and you rocket off the line.

Trust me, it works "a little too well".
Thats a pretty old trick and its mainly used in street races!! Their initial acceleration isn't too bad though!
I see that trick used often with the artics, to help with the turbo lag issue!
That is an old trick a friend of mine who drives for the Kansas City ATA showed me back when Kansas City was notorious for their RTS's. Their 1986 GMC RTS's had horrible turbo lag and he showed me that trick and every bus he drives, that is exactly what he does. He is NEVER late on any of his runs.

Thanks for the news. I'll be on the 104 today, I'll see if there are any hybrids today on that line or what I can see of the 123.

I rode 8287 on the 27 today. It was nicer inside then the 2008 New Flyer DE40LFs. The ceiling piece between the windows and the ceiling are gray on the 2009 DE40LFs and white on the rest of the New Flyers. I do hope Baltimores next DE40LFRs are the same way. The interior lighting. I cant tell if the lights are LEDs but I somewhat suspect they are LEDs.
