They are LED lighting, shocked no one else picked up on that little tidbit. The interior seems to be designed more towards the restyled body new flyers versus the old styles which we are so used to. Edited by Van2006ko, Jul 25 2009, 08:21 PM.

5201 is an Allegheny block, not a Victory block. Victory hasn't gotten any 2009 hybrids.... yet *suspicious stare* |

Technically they are DE40LFs and not DE41LFs. Although some angles of the latest DEs look like they are DE41LFs and others it seems they are the same exact length as the rest of the New Flyers. Plus all manufacturers offer the ceiling piece between the ceilings and the window panes in gray or white. They may be standard in gray on Gilligs. Maybe for NABIs and Orions. And I do hope they are standard on New Flyers so Baltimore MTA next DE40LFRs can have the same ceilings as SEPTAs. Since their DE60LFRs have the white piece inbetween the ceilings and the windows and their LED interior lights have the same covering as SEPTAs NABIs have. The plain white covering where you cant even see the lights and those are LEDs. Hopefully Baltimore MTAs DE40LFRs will be the same length as SEPTAs latest New Flyers. Even thought Baltimores are the restyled end caps with a rear HVAC unit. |

It Depends on whether or not they get the Low Profile roof thingy. For some reason it makes the bus bigger. But It doesn't just apply to the LF models. In fact, this developed from the LFR model, and SEPTA somehow got NFI to produce a LF version.... big mistake if you ask me.... |

Baltimores next DE40LFRs are definetely having the low profile roof cap since not all 4 bases can fit the original New Flyer hybrid roof cap. So all newer New Flyer DEs in Baltimore will have the low profile roof cap. And one thing that I feel makes SEPTAs New Flyer interiors feel smaller then Bmore MTAs is the black box on the front left wheel well. Baltimores are the same box as what SEPTAs older hybrids have. I just either have to get a chance to sit in the back seat on the right side of either SEPTAs older hybrids or Bmore MTAs 06000s to see for sure that the interior is the same exact length as Bmores D40LFs. I think all New Flyer 40LF(R)s have the same interior length. Sometimes MTAs D40LFs look to be the standard length and sometimes they look longer then the standard length. The Low Profile roofcaps are available on all New Flyer hybrids. CTAs DE60LFs are the old style and they have the low profile roof caps. So SEPTA isnt the only TA to get them on the old style New Flyers. And if CTA gets DE40LFs they will also have low profile roof caps. But SEPTA happened to be the only TA to get rooftop HVACs on DE40LFs.

SEPTA wasn't the only TA to do it on a LF model, just the first. SEPTA is the reason why the Low Profile is even available on a LF model |

The main reason the low profile roof caps were invented is because not all transit bases can fit the high profile roof caps. Like Baltimore MTA cannot fit the high profile roof cap into Kirk Ave and Eastern. So they are getting future orders with low profile roof caps. And I think Edmonton was first to get the low profile roof caps.

I spotted 8285 on the 48 today and its sign had Front-Markt instead of Front-Market like it would with the Neoplan AN460 articulated buses and the New Flyer D40LFs. |
