Great photo, but...

I am very displeased with these new buses. I'd love to figure out SEPTA's logic (or lack thereof) behind the lame-a*@ old design compared with the new design that WMATA and Baltimore got for their New Flyers...
I highly agree. If I wasn't in the know, I wouldn't put those to be buses made in the year 2008. I'm amazed at the amount of customization, particularly with the roof equipment, that went into these buses. However, they don't even have frameless windows! Just the same old boxy NFIs with the same old, now dated look.

Doesn't anyone care much about curb appeal anymore? Since these 400 hybrids are supposed to be a huge statement by SEPTA about how it's going green, you'd think they'd present something that would make people turn heads and take notice.

Oh well, I guess...looks like all of our 40ft buses, save for the tracklesses, will have the same basic look!

A rumor was posted on BTCo.net the old style New Flyers should be discontinued sometime in either 2009 or 2010. If so that will be good. I do think SEPTA needs to do serious upgrades. High back driver seats. Electronically printed passes. Restyled end caps. And also more upto date fare gates at subway stations. It makes no sense to still have an 8 trip Convenience pass need to have the month and day clipped out with a hole puncher. Especially when someone is bound to screw up and clip 2 dates on someones ticket. Which happened to me my first visit to Philly. And to me SEPTA should have not discontinued the all day pass. Hopefully if I do get hired with SEPTA at some point I can move to New Jersey and drive for NJT. Since NJT is more upto date on things. And even purchases all high floor buses. Plus New Jersey Transits commuter rail fleet is more like an average Commuter Train then SEPTAs. SEPTAs Silverliners passenger seats are not all that high back. And most commuter service is EMUs as NJTs are Mainly push pulls even with bi levels. SEPTA I doubt will get Bi Level trains for the Regional Rail.

well, should and would are two different things. They may stop taking new orders, but, if both the CTA and SEPTA want to, they will definitely be of the old design...

And yes, SEPTA should not have discontinued the daypass :).

And how long did it take for Frontier to get it's first New Flyers? And how many 5600s did they get? They even lost one with the last overhaul!

I think what the poster meant is that we (Frontier), save for the mini buses, barely get any of the new buses while everyone else has like 3 to 4 times the amount we have.

And since these our hybrids, Frontier may not even get any, or maybe a handful (like 5) - the 8000s will be the "suitable replacement". The laughable thing is that people keep ranting and raving that the suburbs get all of the new stuff!

We had bus training today at Callowhill the bus is nice looking in the inside septa requested this old design so parts department would be simplified headlights tail marker windshields mirrors all in stock with current fleet. but the bus is very slow it is not at all what you might think the bus has three engine settings with low enviro being the lowest and makes it the greenest it can be and thats where the shop has set them to the bus is longer because the body is that of the redesigned flyer .The rear right tail bottom most noticable of axtra . the buses at callowhill all hit the street tuesday any driver not trained will not drive them.

Callowhill is only getting 10 for now they are being sent to other depots i went pass germantown again tonight and bus 8167 along with another bus was over there so these buses had to be just waiting at flyers plant to be deliverd for them to be at 8167 this fast we did not get the chance to drive them because septa says every thing is the same as a flyer all ready in service but instructors say they are very slow. Also 27,28,29 got there today sometime. 23 is MIA.

It seems to me, they need to start experimenting with different engine settings!! Knowing Callowhill that's just what they may do...

8167 showing up now reminds me of the times I looked at Ctrabs' archives from early 2000 and saw that the Neoplan artic deliveries were up to around 7120 and "in a real numbering quirk, 7144". 8167 was probably just randomly shipped before some of the lower numbered ones.

As far as 8120, New Flyer may be holding this one at the plant until most of the batch is delivered. They did the same thing with the 8000s when they held 8000 until later in the deliveries. I'm not surprised at all by this if this is in fact the case. 8123 is probably just not delivered yet but it will be here.

Is this delivery batch for 100 buses plus the extra 20 bus option or just 100 buses?

I went to germantown today and saw 8176 there with 2 other new hybrids.

Next I visited callowhill and was just in time to see 8124. A driver was introducing some drivers to the bus and how to start it up. Funny thin about it is that it sounds like a trackless a little bit.
