If there were special tracks that go anywhere you want that currently lack RR service, what places would they be? I think they oughta restore the West Chester & Newtown service, and add a New Hope line |

Not Happening. With the FTA's new guidelines on spending, they will not pay for anything that might be considered a "extension", which is what the West Chester, New Hope, Quakertown/Allentown, and Pheonixville/Pottstown/Reading runs will be. And even still, out of those I have said, only the West Chester and Reading lines might just make it. The West Chester is looking like that will be paid with mostly private monies, and Montgomery and Berks Counties is taking over the Reading Corridor with operations being ran by either Norfolk Southern (the owners) or SEPTA. It would not surprise me if Montgomery County is looking at NJT and ALP45DP to run it (purchasing several) but is waiting to see about potential bugs and problems (see the PL42AC). Note of interest: The ALP45DP is supposed to be essentially a slightly oversized ALP46 with a pantograph and a pair of Gensets for off wire operations. Make no mistake, this beast is not to be confused with the EMD P32ACDM or the LIRR DMs as they operate off a 725VDC third rail and can be tapped directly to the traction motors and the HEP system. The ALP45 has to step down a catenary feed ranging from 12.5Kv 25Hz, 25Kv 25hz or 25Kv 60Hz, and this hasn't been done sucessfully. |

I would hope that the Quakertown/Shelly extension would make it to, considering it would also benefit freight service. |

Time to bump one of my oldest threads: unless they already got private service, they GOTTA make/restore RR service to Pottstown....I don't know why it went in the first place |

my 2 cents: schuylkill valley metro, some form of rail serivce to KOP mall, reuse the old Reading Viaduct (maybe to get diesel service into downtown one day). |

The Reading Viaduct is completely unusable. Where it splits off from the current mainline, there is the new power substation. Also, it ends before getting to I-676. Plus, where are the trains going to go if you can somehow move the substation? "Reading Terminal" is now the Convention Center. |

Here's two that could be done in our lifetimes but probably won't..... 1) R2 extension to Elkton MD. DelDOT has been wanting this for a while. Under the current AMTRAK rules, both SEPTA and MARC have to qualify to BACON interlocking, which is about a mile into Maryland from Delaware and about 17 miles from DAVIS and Newark (all commuter roads with services terminating on the NEC itself must qualify to the nearest full interlocking - DAVIS is on the eastern side of Newark Station). DelDOT wants to build a major park-and-ride for both Washington/Baltimore and Philadelphia/NYC bound commuters with separate layup facilities for both roads. MARC refuses because it does not benefit their riders enough. 2) Restoration of Parkesburg service. With Chester county blowing up the way it has, SEPTA's decision to cut the service to Downingtown was a VERY bad decision. Now any plans for that must wait until the Rule 562 Project is done. |

I'm waiting for additional Trenton service. R3 expansion (via NJT contract) from West Trenton to Trenton. or Express service from Trenton to points west via the NS Morrisville Line with a connection to the R3 near Woodbourne. |

There's a better chance of restoring service to West Chester then to follow though with those plans. No body wants to expand their service apparently so we are stuck with the same boring depressing system. The so-called politicans in office aren't doing too many things to push expanded service, yes there's been a few incidents but thats just politcs. Would be happy if there was the route 100 to KOP. You can say that again!!!! Who wants to pay an arm and a leg for 3 fare zones on the 124-125 to KOP in unreliable heavy-traffic expressways? I would NEVER give my money just to sit in an inprisoning parking lot for 23457935982475693490385029 hours! |

Now, the City Branch is an entirely different story! :p That would make an excellent addition to the city's transportation network... If only SEPTA could get access to the former B&O line along the river... |
