I wonder who bought them?

Maybe SEPTA did?

And it's 350 to 374.

I think the auctioners made 1 mistake. The only Gillig on that list thats 1996 is 468. All of the others are 1995. Does DART still operate 20 of the Gillig Phantoms?

Wow nice find, its interesting to see that they sold their buses off. also noticed mainly of them said the mileage reader has been replaced. I assume they are talking about the speedometers on some of them?

Speaking of which, These speedometers (http://govauctionlistservices.com/govals/govals26/351_11.jpg), you can tell have been replaced sometime several years ago. SEPTA done the same on some of their Eldoradoes, NABIS, Artics, and New Flyers as well. most of them are accurate however, some read an however speed then what the bus is truly going.

These speedos (http://govauctionlistservices.com/govals/govals26/355_11.jpg) has the be the worst in the market. On the NABIS many of them read a lower speed then what the bus is going.

I do like DARTs Gillig Phantoms and even though they are only 96" wide and Id prefer 102" wide for 40fts I will miss the Phantoms. I do hope to get back to Wilmington sometime soon to see what the DART Service is like now that 201-290 came in. Im sure I will be commonly seeing them pulling into Rodney Square along with NABIs and some older Advantages instead of NABIs and Gillig Phantoms along with older Advantages. Plus I do hope the remaining Gillig Phantoms and the 99 Advantages are only restricted to weekday use.

They had only two buses are 445 and 467, the rest of the buses are going to use for sale

I don't think SEPTA buys them, probably New Jersey Transit or other Transit system buys them, Last week of Decmber 2, I saw an Ex-DART Gillig Phantom # 373 going to I-95 at North Adens Street near Rite Aid at W4th Street before I was cross the road, I forgot to bring my Kodak to take that Pic. of that bus, This bus had a PA license on the back of the bus, I think is probably R. Transit or CAT Transit.

Good riddance to these pieces of junk. Gillig Phantoms from 1996 are just junk - Ride On's Gilligs in Mont. Co., MD are junky too, just like these were.

However, I will miss them :(. It will be wierd to go around DART country without seeing them around, as they were so prevalent (moreso than the other buses of the fleet). Now DART is overrun with Gillig Low Floors, much like SEPTA is overrun with _40LFs.

I dont think Rabbit Transit purchased any of DARTs Gillig Phantoms. CAT had 3 40ft long Gillig Phantoms from 1988 that are already retired. So who knows. If I see a 40ft Gillig Phantom with a 96" width in York and it has a Series 50 engine I will suspect it was a former DART Gillig. Plus CATs been mostly purchasing new buses with the exception of the used MCI A Series coaches they purchased. And their oldest buses are 94 RTSs. Which are 35ft long. It wouldnt Surprise me if Rabbit Transit purchased unit 373.

Were all of DARTs Gillig Phantoms retired or did they save some of them? I know the Phantoms totaled to 68. Only 25 of them were auctioned off. So either the rest of them have been scrapped or they still run on DARTs fleet. I do wish Rabbit Transit had a few ex DART Gillig Phantoms.

I did agree that the Phantoms DART had were junky. It was due to the lack of keeping them in good condition on the interior. Baltimore MTA did that same thing with their 1990 and older Flxibles. They felt junky riding them but they were good buses. So that makes one thing that both Bmore MTA and DART have done. As well as operators who talk on their cell phones while operating the buses. I basically think DART as well as ALL TAs in the US should do mid life overhauls on buses to keep them lasting longer. To me riding a DART Gillig Phantom was almost like riding a Baltimore MTA 1987 Flxible Metro. Even a 1989 Flxible Metro.
