An artic-loving Comly driver (driving 7101 at the time) told me that SEPTA is expecting to get new Low Floor Hybrid Articulated buses around a year and a half from now. That's a bit sooner than I thought. Anyone hear anything similar?

I was told (Also by a Comly Person) That they will be getting them from New Flyer as part of this order for 400+ Hybrid buses.
Person from Germantown said that SEPTA is Getting 60Foot Low Floor Hybrid buses sometime in the upcomming year

Marcus told me that last month. I found it hard to believe. But when you think about it SEPTA does some of the most oddest things.

Awesome! So where is this in the Capital Budget? Yes, SEPTA may plan to get new hybrid artics with the hope of them being New Flyers, but who knows now that there are other U.S. companies out there, particularly NovaBus?

It's all about the low bid, after all...and the funding. So, I wouldn't expect these new artics very soon, but SEPTA should be starting to look for new ones starting next year if not the end of this year. It may be listed in the Capital Budget for the 2011 fiscal year.

It's either a Nova, a New Flyer, a NABI, or whatever Daimler Buses North America is coming out with if it's available in time.

I'd rather not have even more New Flyers (boring!), NABI artics have been somewhat junky, and I don't trust Daimler BNA after they destroyed Orion's reputation for quality. I'm wondering if the Nova artic would be any good...

We shall see soon - NYC MTA may get some.

SEPTA might order about 50 or 75 becuase not much artics are needed. Only during rush hours.

Tell that to people who ride routes 6 and 33, those are some routes that get crowded way after rush hour, and the 56 should get artics because it's on that list

I was told back in 02 by an Allegheny driver that D60LFs were on the way, i was told by another driver that 7166 is a NABI. I've even been told that i can't take pics of buses from a public street. anyway what i'm saying is don't believe everything drivers tell you. Don't expect to see anytype of new artics in septa livery until 2012 at the earliest. And even thought SEPTA more than likely will go with New Flyer as the builder, don't expect that either.

Let's set the record straight...SEPTA will probably be getting new arts in late 2011...they have to put out RFPs...go through a evaluation process...then award the contract. My contact who works for a major US bus manufacturer said that, now that the economic stimulus package money is now being released, it will take longer for transit agencies longer to get their new buses...most of the major bus manufacturers will have large backlogs. Lastly, Orion is supposedly putting out their new Citaro art model out in 2011... it will probably be introduced at the 2011 APTA Transit Expo...then will be probably be in production by late 2012.

It certainly makes sense for SEPTA to start planning to replace the Neo artics, even though we may not see them hit the streets until 2012 at the earliest (given that the Neos were purchased and placed into service in 2000). However, 50-75 just isn't going to cut it. Not when you have the 6, 14, 33, 48, 54, 60 - peak service on those lines would probably need more than 50-75. Factor in the 22 and 55, along with the long term possibility of seeing artics on a few other routes (ie. the 70 - I would suspect that those trips fill up quick during the week with school trippers) and any artic purchase would have to be at least a 1-for-1 replacement.
