I found out that major construction is happening at the Bells Corner trackless loop. The plan is to redo the concrete, and move the employee bathrooms over to where the sub-station area is.
They just dropped off a construction trailer and the loop is closed. All 59 trackless have to EPU around the block.

SEPTA never informed the operators about this before they did the summer pick. I'll bet everybody would have the stayed off the 59.
With the Wayne Junction fiasco and the steps things at Arrott, SEPTA should consider busing these two trackless lines(59 & 75) for the summer, when they have buses to spare.
Better save those NABI's.

The operators are raving mad about all this.

In reference to EPU use at Bells Corner.

The EPU unit on the trackless is an Emergency Power unit only.
That means, temporary police /fire action or temporary street closures.

When scheduled maintenance is needed to streets and loops for and will involve weeks and months of work, the EPU should not be used. Operators are being flagged for overuse, the undersized diesel generators are actually wearing out. SEPTA should use diesel buses for the routes and this is very possible to do with the summer schedules. Instead of scrapping the current fleet of NABI buses, get a few more miles out of them until this planned construction is  over. In fact it has been discussed that this be done for the 75 for the summer, if Wayne Junction does not get done soon. I would also bus the 59 with the Bells Corner loop thing and the Arrott steps going on at the same time.

SEPTA Trackless operators are going out and buying shorts for the summer. The A/C on the coaches is a far cry from what it used to be and now with all that running out and re-poling stuff, the operators will be too hot.

Geez, it's too bad they couldn't have done all of this construction BEFORE they brought back the tracklesses...you know, like, less than a year ago when Neoplan AN440s roamed the streets!

At least the operators would be able to get their exercise!

The option order for the South Philly lines, if they come back, should be for dual mode buses that can run on diesel rather well. Then you'll get to see a trackless on the C!

I am surprised the operators as a whole were caught unaware about the loop. I know a few of them did know, as I've spoken with at least one about it. It's been in the planning stages for nearly a year.

I know they are going to do all the concrete. They also may relocate the restrooms to the sub-station area.

They are putting in a new building next door to the substation. Will look very much like the one @ gregg loop.

Can't they simply cut the 59 back to Castor & Cottman(Bleigh, Alma, Elgin) & divert selected trips along route 58 to cover the segment along Castor Avenue between Cottman & Hoffnagle(like, have the Bustleton & Rennard trips cover this branch of the 59)?

Maybe we can suggest this to SEPTA?

I was up there today, it didn't look so bad to me, the only thing is that they EPU into the loop, they don't EPU out, it shouldn't be much of a big load on these buses, they've been through worst :P

I was there yesterday ,06/04/09 around 12 noon and they were on wire in the loop. What time did you see this EPU thing going on? Also that whole loop is going to be out of service, they are re-doing all the concrete and moving the employee restrooms. Kind like a Gregg St. re-hab. So the coaches will have to do some crazy around the block detour, SEPTA still has to still figure it out.

Bells Corner will be re done completely starting this summer. The 59 and 75 probably will go bus, hopefully...working on it.. Bells Corner will get similar improvements like Gregg Loop. The restroom ARE being moved where the substation is. The current restrooms will be a storage facility. It's shuttle bus time!
