I believe DART is budgeted to a mid-year fiscal year (July 1-June 30); the DelDOT documents are effective July 1, 2008 (the Transportation Plan is from FY 2009-2014). The point I was trying to make was that the Champion buses that should've been retired years ago (worst ... buses ... ever) were, based on what I posted, at least numbered 601-637. That's what I was confirming. |

An update on the Resort Transit situation - many of the Champions are still at the Park-Ride lot in Rehoboth along with a handful of Gilligs in the 290 series. 292 was serving 201 last night as the only bus on the line. I attempted to confirm the size of the Champ order but was not successful. Many of the Champs look and ride fine. Some are a little worn looking especially where wraps have been removed and paint has come off with the wrap. Didn't get a chance to ride the Gilligs, but I did notice that the side signs do not display the route numbers for some reason (the message displayed on front is the same but no route numer, even on the routes that still show a 'Route xxx' as a pulse of the display. E.g. 292 was showing 201 Boardwalk / Rehoboth Ave / Park & Ride but the side sign on the first pulse merely said Boardwalk. Also found it interesting that two sections of the 208 are regularly run. The schedule has a long headway as the line is generally served by a single bus, but in the past the runs often call for a 'second section'. We followed an 'express' run up the coast yesterday with a 600 signed up as a Special with standees from the Ocean City transfer to the Park-Ride lot - we passed it north of Bethany and realized something was up when it didn't take the jog into Bethany and stayed on DE 1. 293 was waiting at the OC transfer when we passed, so it probably did the local schedule (it was signed as Out of Service so it must've deadheaded down from the Park-Ride lot). This was for the 1 PM trip out of OC. Keep in mind this was a rainy-day off-season run - on rainy days many people ditch the beach and head for the outlets, and we saw a southbound 203 swallowing a crowd at the Tanger Outlet-Midway stop a little later, probably headed back to OC eventually. OC's bus was running a steady short headway the whole time we drove down and back the main drag and each bus had a good-size crowd aboard as near as we could tell. Didn't see any of the MTA artics from Baltimore this year. The El D's on the West OC route (for some reason, the Thomases and Blue Birds stay on the main drag route) were surprisingly empty by comparison. |
