On E. Oregon Ave late Saturday Evening, Septafan told me he spotted new Catenary wires at the RR crossing on E. Oregon Ave. When he told me this, We 1st thought they were Light Rail. So Tuesday when Septafan chartered to Pier 70 for his Rt. 64, we passed E. Oregon to see the new Catenary Wires. Today (Wednesday August 12, 2009 @ 4:00P.M.) I and Septafan went over to E. Oregon Ave to discover the Catenary Wires are Regional Rail Catenary to test the ROTEM cars (Silverliner V). Pictures are now available with a Link in a later Post of mines.

Can't take all the credit for this post, because Septafan tipped me about the Catenary Wire. Thanks again to Septafan for the Tip about the Catenary wires, where the ROTEM cars A.k.A Silverliner V cars are being completed after their half-way production in Japan. So all the credit most goes to Septafan on this discovery.

Where is the exact location of the wires? The new Rotem USA manufactuering site is near that location. Those wires possibly lead toward the plant.

if u go to the rail crossing on oregon below front look towards snyder ave and u will see the siding on the right hand side of the main line it looks like the line splits to double track the track that diverge to the right has the catenary over it u cant miss it you will notice it as soon as u look down the line they put up new caternary poles and they used some of the old wooden poles that were already there it seems check it out u wont be dissapointed

That really sounds like ROTEM's mini test track. Its supposed to be fully electrified with variable voltages to test traction and dynamic braking systems and minor QC stuff.

Can someone get down there and get some shots of the test track and the building?

It sounds like that to me as well. Agreed completely... There is no agenda at SEPTA to do anything electrical down in south Philadelphia.

Looks like most of the major work is done. Now if we can get some idea on the production status overseas, then we'll be good. Remember, Southern California Metrolink's bi-level cars are supposed to be delivered first, then the Silverliner V and MBTA's Bi-levels are built concurrently. What's going to be really interesting is seeing how the S-V will be delivered, whether its by truck or rail; Metrolink and MBTA will get theirs slapped onto the back of a fast freight.
