9001 arrived to Baltimore today. A right side picture was taken. And what sucks. The rear door is as wide as on the DE60LFRs. I was hoping the rear door would look like SEPTAs on the outside but have the push bar instead of fully automatic. And there are directions on the rear door of how it opens. If its a push open non power door it says. When green light comes on push to open. And the power push door says. Press Here to open.

looks cool, i think the wider doors aren't a problem... but non-automatic doors are a scary thought... In the picture though, it looked like the back was messed up

My only issue with the extra wide rear door is that it takes up seating capacity. And Baltimore already has most of its routes that get overcrowded. Especially when they have the option to add additional service but choose not to. Then they sometimes help make things worse by leaving runs missing no matter how busy a route gets. Including routes that get full capacity no matter what bus is assigned to the route.

Nah, push operation doors aren't bad. Just think how people push on the door of the NABIs there's that door opening delay. Just imagine a push bar/strip and it works the same way (only it will actually open the door).

It's nice because the driver can activate both doors at just about every stop, and if you want to leave, you can open the door yourself. It minimizes the cry of "BACK DOOR!"

Some features Im not sure if these buses will have. Like the sticker stating. Open Top window for ventilation. As well as signs stating. Our Operators do not use cell phones while operating MTA vehicles. That may not 100% be necessary for the cell phone signs since the MTA adopted a zero tolerance policy with cell phones and drivers stopped using them while driving as the result.

The push button back door open option is good though, but most of the time the driver usually opens the doors. BTW, all New Flyer buses don't have driver operated buttons, they have a lever that may open the front door one way, the back door the other and the front and back door altogether. That includes MTA Maryland's new Slugs and their Sharks , 40 and 60 foot.

The door handles usually have one direction to open the front door first. Then rear door second. And thats the direction facing the windshield. The direction of the handle facing towards the rear opens the rear door first and the driver can turn the handle all the way to open the front door second. Thats how all metal handle transit bus doors work. Baltimore MTA uses the handle for all buses. Flxibles, NABIs, Neoplans, and New Flyers.

SEPTAs latest New Flyers also have the handle.

MTA tested a new color scheme in February on 8003 at the auto show and it turns out to be a good color scheme. So the color has changed.

I've already know that MTA Maryland's Flexes, Sharks, and Slugs use the levers, But their Bricks, And their Neos have levers?! Our Neos (especailly the Neos since the '84-'89 models) and Bricks have the signature green push buttons.
Impressive.

The Lever probably doesnt require as much maintenance as the green buttons. The worse that can go wrong with the lever is getting pulled out of the socket its mounted in. It happened once 5 years ago in Baltimore. I think it was a Neoplan AN440LF. And I think many TAs use them as well. Like Rabbit Transit. CAT, and I think DART does to.

I got to see some interior pics of Bmore MTAs 09000s. They basically have the same features as the 08000s except the upper side walls are the same gray as on SEPTAs 09 DE40LFs. Which I am glad to see. I wish the 08000s had them as well. But since the order was piggybacked they got the white upper side walls on the 08000s.
