The ISL on our hybrids sounds way different then the ISL on both the 8000, 5600x, and the older hybrids. In 2007 they made changed to the ISL to make it sound way more quieter! If you listen to the 2008 DART Gilligs, which has the Cummins ISL, you would have sworn they have another kind of Cummins Engine.

The Information which I've posted was not a fragment of my nor someone else's imagination. It was directly from an official source.

As reported in the sightings thread, the highest numbered NJT NABI that I saw was 5365 (sorry, didn't get a picture or vid shot). It does appear as though the ISL conversion did take place at 5346.

I did, however, get three video shots inside 5350, which appears to have the Cummins ISL and a ZF transmission - the transmission, though, sounds a hell of a lot different than SEPTA's 8000-series New Flyers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dehWzu_pEvg - Part 1 (Lindenwold Borough and past Clementon Park)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoFwdCXoDrM - Part 2 (Through Camden County College campus)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5ztshlIe58 - Part 3 (Turtle Creek HS to Washington Twp Garage)
I also got videos of NJT NABIs on 10/17/2009. To make this promotion, I got two sets of NJ Transit NABIs videos. Video set 1 is NJ Transit NABI 5340

Part 1 and 2 are videos that shown the bus is traveling down on Market Street:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAjZEe5Y_uI&feature=channelhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uqkw8DoIjQk

Part 3 shows that the bus is traveling in Vine Street.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmKY0hgEs-g&feature=channel

Part 4 is being uploaded.

The other part of the video (returning to Philly) will be uploaded.

Ridden on a 536x on the route 400 earlier today. The engine does sound a tad different, but as Ctrabs cited it sounded nothing like our ISLs. Needless the say, it's a completely different engine with different characteristics - the vibration was not as notable versus the earlier units as well... The ZF transmission shifts more like the ones on the earlier-NJT RTS, or better yet on the later-80s SEPTA Neoplans.

For what it's worth:

Before the NABIs were placed in service, Washington Township garage had 35 Flxible Metro Bs. As of now, according to Trevor Logan's roster at TransiTalk, only 3000, 3161, 3239, and 3269 are in service.

Washington Twp now has 5322-5365 (44 NABIs) with a few more reportedly being placed into service. I guess the next question would be how many MCIs will be pulled from Washington Twp and sent back north.

That's because there's modification of the engine to meet the EPA requirement leading the engine to known as Cummins ISL9. That engine was available this year to meet the EPA requirement for next year and I agree it sounded different than the Cummins ISL used on SEPTA's 2003-2005 New Flyer D40LF. Also wait until next year to hear how the engine sounds on the 2010 New Flyer DE41LF since it will be using it Cummins ISL9 too.

I can't see the 401, 402, 408, or 410 getting them but you never know.
the 410 started getting random NABI runs don't ask why, but it happened

the Metro Bs are gone, if there is still one roaming around, chances are that that bus was reassigned to Newtown Ave

I wonder how an ISL sounds on a NABI 416? I know it sounds like a more powerful ISC on the Gillig Phantom and Advantage and a quieter late 90s M11 on the New Flyer D40LF(R).

Here's one of my videos of the NJT's NABI equipped with Cummins ISL9 from the interior.

I have been seeing up to 4 NABIs in a row lately. Three on the 400 and some other one out of service as a training bus.
