On the MFL I understand that the codes specify where the high rise track bed was going to be installed at. EX. 45-06 (45th street - Section 6 )

But I don't understand what these new spray painted codes mean in the subway?

Anybody wants to take a shot at it? This picture was taken at North Philadelphia station.

Could be the original designations for the support poles as per the blueprints... Were there any other consecutive marks on the walls?

Every 4 or so support poles on the wall, another code appears by the increased number.

I know that the first number is the hundred of block where u at on broad st. for example it is 27, it means that you are under the 2700 block of broad st.

I know that the first number is the hundred of block where u at on broad st. for example it is 27, it means that you are under the 2700 block of broad st.
And the second number (bottom) is the number of columns in from the first one in that particular block. Usually the first one gets numbered, then generally in multiples of 5 (although I've seen it in 4's as well). Sometimes, in long blocks, 3 digits are needed (can't think of the location, but I know I've seen it).

The only strange part of this is that, this being North Broad St, I thought the top digit was the cardinal direction, so this should actually be N in this instance.

The signals relate to this in much the same way.

They are bent indicators.

As I recall, the "S" stands for southbound side. The "27" means you are on the 27th block on north broad, and the "95" means you are at the 95th bent in that block. I haven't needed track school in a few years so I'm a bit rusty.

They are used for a lot of things such as maintenance requests. A report of a water leak in the tunnel or a light fixture out will have a bent number. That's how I used to get the maintenance requests.

You can see them on the Market frankford line and others as well, except they are "E" and "W". Similar numbers using the same system are on all the supports of the el down front, kensington, and frankford avenues.
