I guess the timing was a little off with the Flxibles (although it would have been great to have a Metro E running around here!). I'm glad we now have a classic in the Philadelphia area. Between that and the WMATA L10/Voith Flx, they have a nice fleet! That classic looks really good, though. Much better than the D40 ever did. |

Having worked on 20th St. along the Park Towne Place shuttle route for nearly 17 years, it seems like the operator (Wil-co or whomever ran the run before them) basically used a different bus for that run every year for a while. The earliest bus I remember on that line (back in the mid 1990s) was a good-looking maroon GM fishbowl. (At that time, I believe that Park Towne ran the service itself.) Meanwhile, "The Philadelphian" was also going through buses like crazy before 76 Carriage took over their run a couple years ago with the current blue suburban Gillig LF. Between the two operations, I've seen everything from an ex-NJDOT/NJT suburban Flxible New Look, to RTSes from DART, Queens Surface, NYCT, & RGRTA (Rochester, NY), to the light-duty Thomas in that awful faded blue, to Flxible Metros from GRTC (Richmond, VA), RRTA, & WMATA. The RRTA Flx was used just before Wil-co bought the current WMATA Flx. The New Flyer D40HF was indeed ex-CT Transit, from their Hartford division. Wil-co repainted the sides to remove the yellow stripe, but kept the original livery in the front. Both that D40HF & the WMATA Flx still have their original fleet numbers on their roofs. I don't recall ever seeing any Orions (any version) or Gillig Phantoms on the Park Towne or Philadelphian runs. Edited by MichaelBug, Sep 11 2009, 04:55 PM.
