I'm splitting this topic so that we can discuss this. It's a very interesting idea, but completely impractical for today's funding environment and incredibly expensive. I hate to be a downer, as I think this would be the coolest thing ever. But an airport shuttle doesn't need to be high-speed Maglev (unless there is serious Public Private Partnership) and it'll be very expensive getting it into Philadelphia. All this state really needs is major upgrades to the Keystone past Harrisburg, with 110 mph tracks and electrification. It's own ROW (or at least a faster one) would be great too. As for the link from the PGH Airport to Downtown Pittsburgh, it would be most reasonable to expand the already existing LRT so that you can link it to the existing network and bring it right downtown, instead of having to destroy everything (or build new tunnels) for the Maglev... In these days, gold plated projects - at least in small, regional areas - don't work. See the Schuylkill Valley Metro for reference. |

Why don't Pittsburgh folk want ultra high speed Magnetic Levitation trains to the local airport? If y'all don't want it, then let the people working towards reactivating the Quakertown Line have it! :) |

What a waste of money... I agree with the idea of expanding the T system to the Airport in the long term. |
