While returning to 69 St on the El this afternoon, SEPTA Transit Police arrested a man at gunpoint while the train was stopped at 63 St westbound. The subject had been acting crazy and was seen holding a knife as police arrived. The train car we were on (1101) cleared out pretty quickly, in spite of the fact that one of the doors was stuck. The guy was taken into custody, but a few people were ticked off because they were late for work. To those people, I ask this: Would you rather be calling your boss to say that you're running late or would you rather have the cops calling your next of kin to tell them that you were hurt or killed? Philadelphia never ceases to amaze me sometimes... Two weeks ago, I saw 6 transit cops arrest a guy on what later turned out to be only a disorderly conduct charge. A couple weeks before that, a fire breaks out in the womens restroom near the 109 platform. And that was the week after heavy rains hit the 69 St Terminal area and a car gets stuck in flooded water at Victory Av/West Chester Pike. It would be nice if my next trip through 69 St would be less drama free... |
