Now that the Retrofit program is underway any new sightings of cars with these signs are to be posted here, instead of making a topic for each car upgraded! So far 9017, 9052, and 9099 have the signs! Also I should note that only the 9000-9111 group are getting the new signs.

I think the orange LED headsigns are a better choice then the hand cranks. I do wish SEPTA installed them on the NABIs and the Neoplan AN460s. If that happened the entire TA would have orange LED signs. |

No, those are motorized. They just push a switch and roll the sign upwards or downwards. Hand cranks are way back in the day. I wonder if the PCC IIs now have the motorized roll signs now. |

I dunno...there will be no need to spend money on motorized cranks because the PCCs serve only two destinations that I know of as of now. Hand cranks are fine. I am gonna ask the drivers and/or watch what they do on layover. @ Nabi60SFW9620: I think they MUST keep the flip-dot signs. That's the last bit of diversity I see these days here in Philly. And I like taking pictures of them at night, because the signs are not too bright. |

the only septa vehicles in the last 30-some years that had hand cranks for the roll signs were on the the old PCC trolleys. the old fishbowls, flxibles and the Kawasaki's all use a rocker switch and a motor. i am not sure if the rebuilt PCC II' s motorized just about everyone on this forum knows that NABI 5251 and Neoplan AN460 7101 are currently the only non-new flyer busses with the orange LEDs. it would be a waste of money to install the orange LEDs on the NABIs now as they are in the process of being retired |

The suburban LRVs use hand cranks. |
