http://www.philly.com/philly/wires/ap/news/state/pennsylvania/20091005_ap_womankilledbyamtraktrainnearphiladelphia.html FOLCROFT, Pa. - A woman has been struck and killed by an Amtrak Acela train near Philadelphia. Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm says it happened Monday afternoon in the Philadelphia suburb of Folcroft. It was not immediately clear why the woman was on the tracks. No one on the train was injured but the New York-to-Washington train with 150 passengers was delayed while police investigated. It arrived at Washington's Union Station at 6:15 p.m., an hour and 19 minutes behind schedule. Kulm says Acela trains go as fast as 110 mph in the area where the woman was struck. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority suspended service on the R2 commuter line due to the police activity, but service was restored later Monday afternoon. Why does trespassers have to cross the tracks instead of using pedestrian bride or underpass to get over to other side? Trains that passes that station including Amtrak, Acela Express and some SEPTA trains runs at high speed. It is very dangerous and no one should have did it |
