Not to much info Right now but Septafan has spotted Overhead Wire Workers repairing existing Trackless Trolley wire in the back of Southern Depot. Looks like Septa has plans to restore the Rt. 79 and/or the Rt. 29.

79 would seem as the likely choice, considering the 29 has been extended "off-wire" onto Pier 70 ... that's IF it were to happen (and, considering the SEPTA Board's hostility towards Southern trackless, that's a BIG if)...

That said, I would like to see tracklesses return on the 79 in the long term; I still remain sceptical given the way things are at SEPTA.

I Hope Its Goin 2 B On Both Routes And On The 79 They Should Fix The Wires And On The 29They Should Fix The Wires & Extend Wires To Pier 70

The whole Idea of replacing route 79 is just crazy why just bring back the 79 and not the 29?

Politics. Heaven forbid the line exists as a diesel line...

The 29's issue lies in Pier 70, as well as its Western end, where the wires were taken down as well. Taking the 29 away from Pier 70 would not be a wise move at all, but the owners refuse to allow wires there.

Well right now Septafan asked the Overhead Wire crew if they were taking down the Trackless Trolley Wires, all they said "NO". But lets not jump to speculation now. There is still LOTS of work to be done. I guess SEPTA is smart for once and actually working on Southern DEPOT itself instead of fixing the Route's 29/79 Wires, which most likely means Southern is going to house ETBs again. But as of today I went down to the depot to inspect the wires, they got some work done where Wires now reach Bays 2-4 visible from 20th Street side near Moyamensing. Still lots of work to be done around Southern Depot, but for now we just have to wait for an official word. I'll still be checking Southern Depot weekly to see how the overhead wire crews progress. So I have some pics and some from Septafan some of the pics look the same but some are his and some are mine.

Let's not get our hopes up, until we hear something official that Southern wants trackless back.
To make it practical, both the 29 & 79 would have to be restored and not just the 79. And Pier 70 does not want wires on their property.

There are too many strikes against it now. Sorry to be so skeptical.

I can 't understand why they are fixing wires at Southern depot.

Listen to what you just said "The 29 & 79 are done" meaning they will permanently bustituted. But Septa said "These routes will be "Temporary" Bustituted" and the word temporary don't mean its going to come back next month or the year after. It means Septa needs time to work their plans. And it will happen but it will take time. Listen Septa didn't execute the option for the extra 23 probably because at the time they were primarily focused on the Northeast Trackless Trolley. Now with some Barack Obama Stimulus we've seen Septa execute an extra 40 buses for the 09 Hybrid batch. Right now it looks like Septa is working on Southern Trackless Trolley Infrastructure to bring them back. Because if Septa was really hostile against Southern and Trackless they would take down the wires to make it official but no they don't.

I agree with you. Of all the times I've been on both the 29 and the 79, it's just doesn't have the feel those routes once had before 2003.

I won't be sitting around waiting for 23 additional trackless trolleys that will never be delivered for 2 lines that will never see a trackless again. I would've loved to have seen trackless trolleys operate out of southern once more but i also have no problem facing the truth. SEPTA will not be ordering any trackless trolleys for the 29 and 79!!!!!

What should happen is SEPTA get some Artic-trackless for the 66 , and send the spare coaches down to Southern.

But we know what will not happen.......

I rode Artic-trackless in San Francisco this summer, pretty wild. They were on the 49-Van Ness line.
