Two things: 1) I think the union invited him to the table 2) Most importantly, while the union and SEPTA are the ones with the issue, the strike is a VERY public matter that could severely affect the economy of the entire state if left alone. Plus, SEPTA's a gov't agency running off of public funds. Thank goodness he's involved so soon, I say! |

At an 11:00 P. M. news conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and Penna. Congressman Bob Brady announced a tentative agreement in the SEPTA strike. If SEPTA management/board and the TWU Local # 234 Executive Committee agree to the terms tomorrow afternoon, transit service could resume by Saturday evening. It would be a five year contract that includes a resolution to the conflict over seniority rights for maintenance workers. There would be slight increases every year in the worker's contribution to the pension fund. Further details will follow. |

Huh? The strike isn't over yet. Let's wait until the strike is officially called off, so children (and adults) everywhere can enjoy a ride on their local New Flyer. |

IAWTP. There have been a couple of times where we thought the strike threat was over, but we were fooled by the union. In fact, this was posted less than half an hour ago (2 pm) at philly.com: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/our-money/Is_there_really_a_deal.html Edited by ctrabs74, Nov 7 2009, 02:26 PM.

Haven't you realize everything in this country involves politics? Even the type of buses we order and where routes should be ran... etc. It all involves politics. |

HI-FIVE, Neoei3318!!!!!! Got the text from septafan about the no-deal issue. I bet $50 they are gonna say NO DEAL on Monday too. Then $80 will be WASTED on a pass that's only used twice a weekday on RR!! From now on, I am not going to get my hopes up just from a saying or idea, I will get my hopes up when wake up aand I hear 7217 pulling off at Chew and Wister. And then I leave for school and 521 pops up on my express BSL ride. Ya know what I mean Edited by buswizard, Nov 7 2009, 06:42 PM.

This is ridiculous. The union needs to vote on the deal and then vote to get rid of Willie Brown! |

Found this on the Inquirer website. ut, hey, Viva Viagra! Yes, it appears that labor issues are not the only dysfunction troubling SEPTA workers. The Daily News reported that some are unhappy that their current health-care plans cover - and here it's important to use caps for emphasis - ONLY 10 VIAGRA PILLS A MONTH. Some union members want the pill - again, excuse the shouting - DAILY, which makes you worry that every bus, trolley, and subway route has the potential to turn into an express, particularly during those problematic four-hour peaks in service. Look, I don't want to dump solely on the SEPTA workers, who average $52,000 in annual wages. |
